Sail Training

Frampton on Severn Sailing Club is a recognized RYA Training Centre, a Sailability partner and an RYA On Board Club with over 30 of its members being qualified RYA Dinghy Instructors or Racing Instructors.
Sailing courses are run for Club Members during the spring and early summer on Saturdays and Sundays catering for all age groups and levels of experience. The Club owns a fleet of training boats, which comprises three RS Fevas, six Toppers, nine Gull Spirits, three Wanderers and three Optimists.
The Adult and Junior courses are run separately to maximise Club resources.
A Senior Instructor supervises all courses.
Full details of Sail Training 2012 together with application forms will be enclosed with the first Club Newsletter of the New Year.
Applications for ALL courses will close one month prior to the start of each course.
Notification and course instructions will be sent electronically, where possible, after all applications have been processed and after the closing date of each course.
Places on courses are only allocated on receipt of the course application form and payment.

The dates for courses, which are available to club members, only are as follows:-
Adult courses are April 14, 21, 28, and May 5, 12 and 19.
Junior courses are June 9, 16, 23, 30, July 7 and 14.
Optimist courses April 22, 29, May 13, 27, June 10, 24, and July 1.
Racing course April 14, 21, 28, May 5, 12, and 19 (Saturdays) and May 13 and 27. (Sundays) Instruction in the morning and the first race in the afternoon which forms part of the course.

Boats Club Gulls and Wanderers

The Adult beginner’s course – no experience necessary. The ideal way to learn the essentials of sailing. By the end of the course you will be confident enough to sail in moderate conditions and enjoy all facilities of the Club to the full.
Better Sailing Skills (Saturdays 10am - 5 pm)
Course Dates April 14, 21, 28, May 5, 12 and 19
Cost £85.00
Boats in the first instance members own boats, Club boats may be available, subject to beginner’s course.

This course is designed for the holders of NDSC 2 or Youth Scheme 3 who have done some sailing since the award of the certificate, ideally at least 30 hours. The aim is to improve and add to their skills, become more self-reliant and be able to make seaman-like decisions in moderate conditions.
RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Level 2 (Saturdays 10am - 5 pm,)
Course Dates:- June 9, 16, 23, 30 and July 7 and 14.
Cost:- £55.00
Boats Club Gulls

The Junior beginner’s course – with no experience necessary, this is the ideal way to learn the essentials of sailing. Sailors must be at least 10 years old and confident in water. By the end of the course you will be confident enough to sail in moderate conditions and enjoy all facilities of the Club to the full.
RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Level 3 (Saturdays 10am - 5 pm)
Course Dates:- June 9,16, 23, 30 July 7 and 14.
Cost:- £55.00
Boats Members own Toppers, and the fleet of Club Toppers. .
Places 16 .
This course is designed for the holders of Level 2 and who have done some sailing since the award of the certificate. The aim is to improve and add to their skills sailing Toppers, become more self-reliant and be able to make seaman-like decisions in moderate conditions.
RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Level 4 (Saturdays 10am - 5 pm)
Course Dates:- June 9, 16, 23, 30 and July1.

Boats Club R.S. Fevas
Places 6
This course is designed for the holders of Level 2 and who have done some sailing since the award of the certificate. The aim is to improve and add to their skills in 2 person boats, become more self-reliant and be able to make seaman-like decisions in moderate conditions.
Please note that Level 3 and Level 4 are broadly equivalent but that Level 4 must be sailed in two person boats. The Young Sailors Logbook explains the details and differences.
Optimist Course (Sunday mornings 10 - 1pm)
Course Dates:- April 22, 29, May 13, 27, June 10, 24, and July 1.
Cost:- £55.00
Boats members own boats and the Club fleet of Optimists

The course is an informal introduction to sailing within the Sail Training scheme and the IOCA scheme. Sailors must be at least 7 years old. This is course is aimed to bring the very young sailor up through the RYA sailing system. By the end of the course it is hoped to award the Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 1, 2 or 3 certificate to all successful candidates depending on the level of skill achieved.
All course members, except beginners, will be assessed on the first day and put into the appropriate skill group.
Racing Skills (5 Saturdays 10am - 5pm, then 2 Sunday mornings 10am - 1pm)
Course Dates:- Saturdays April 14, 21, 28, June 12, 19, and Sundays May 13, 27, the first race in the afternoon forms part of the course.
Cost:- £85.00 (adult) £55.00 (Junior)

The racing course. All you need to know to enable you to take part in and enjoy Club Racing. If you don’t intend to race, it will enhance your overall sailing skills. You should already be able to sail at Level 2 standard
Handicapped Sailing
The Club is also a recognised Sailability establishment and has four Access sailing dinghies in addition to the two Wanderers, which can be rigged for sailors with disabilities.
