Sailing need not be exclusive, the Sailability section of Frampton on Severn Sailing Club gives the opportunity for anyone to sail, whatever their physical or mental ability. The club has been sailing on an inland lake for over 50 years and the Sailability section for nearly 20 years gradually developing for an expanding and diverging customer base. As an RYA Training Establishment we have the ability to train disabled sailors to achieve certificates in both sailing and powerboating.

Running on Saturdays from April to October using specially designed and adapted boats sailors can either sail on their own or with an experienced buddy. We have powerboats that are adapted to roll on wheelchairs and can even be driven by someone who is in a wheelchair. Our sailing boats are specially designed not to capsize and so are perfectly safe for sailing in most conditions. Our mantra is for enjoyment both off and on the water, hence we don’t sail in the cold winter months as sitting in a boat on the water can at times be very cold.

The sessions are run to make all participants happy through a friendly atmosphere, trained helpers both on and off the water and a welcoming environment. Our recently installed changing and toilet facilities cater for all types of disability and the ongoing refurbishment of the clubhouse is progress to cater for the ongoing needs of an inclusive sailing environment.

We are always looking to expand with more sailors and helpers, you don’t have to be qualified, you don’t even have to be able to sail, you just need a willingness to help.
